North Carolina Nephrology offers clinical trials. We are currently enrolling participants in clinical trials for:
- IMAGINATION for IgA Nephropathy – Raleigh Location: Monthly injection of an investigational medication for IgA nephropathy (IgAN) to reduce protein leakage and slow disease progression.
- KARDIA – Raleigh Location: Single injection of an investigational medication to lower BP in patient with hypertension (high blood pressure) who have increased cardiovascular risk or chronic kidney disease.
- REGEN – Raleigh Location: Investigation of an injection of autologous (patient’s own) kidney stem cells to slow the progression of kidney disease in patients with advanced chronic kidney disease – GFR 20-35.
- CSL – Cary office, Southwest Wake and Cary Dialysis clinics: Monthly intravenous (IV) injection of an investigational drug to reduce inflammation and cardiovascular events in hemodialysis patients who have a history of diabetes or atherosclerotic heart disease.
- Vertex 801 – Cary Office: Investigation for nondiabetic chronic kidney disease with increased level of protein in urine and those with FSGS (focal segmental glomerulosclerosis) who are of recent African Ancestry or Geographic origin to test for a genetic variation in a gene called APOL1 which can increase risk of developing kidney disease. Testing only, no study drug involved.
- Vertex Amplitude – Cary Office: One tablet daily of an investigational drug to see if it will slow or stop the worsening of kidney function as well as target the underlying APOL1-mediated chronic kidney disease.
- R3R-ASFSGS-201 – Cary Office: Two tablets at breakfast and two tablets at dinner of an investigational drug used for Alport Syndrome and Focal Segmental glomerulosclerosis. Study drug works by increasing the activity of protein in your body, which helps regulate fat levels in the kidney which causes injury to the kidney cells and therefore may improve kidney function and reduce damage in the kidney.
A clinical trial is also called a research study. Under the supervision of a medical doctor and other research professionals, volunteers receive investigational treatments.
